Get set for a vocal house ride from Ovum Recordings with their new 12" release "What's The Message" by Mirage. Written and Produced by Ovum veteran Pete Moss, with vocals by NYC's Denise De La Cruz, "What's The Message" is an awesome vocal house over deep melodic groove. Vocal mix is reminiscent of early Angel Moreas, while the 'Message Dub' harkens you back the Sound Factory Bar and MK's classic dub of Nightcrawlers "Push The Feeling On." "Mirage Dub" finds Pete channelling his early house influences such as Blaze, Frankie Knuckles, and Tony Humphries. True house music! I-cube "Oblivion" (Dj dixon Edit)
Versatile
This version isn't available (yet?!?!), as Dixon blessed me with a CDR in
November. It has become one of my favorite songs since he presented it to
me. Now the edit makes this original track more DJ friendly. Longer intro,
outro and meat of track being that the original LP version is only 4 minutes.
The original 'oblivion' can be found on the wonderfully eclectic I-Cube LP
entitled '3'. Borrowing from Adonis's acid house classic 'no way back' I-Cube
adds deep, lush, sexy, atmospheric blissful strings and synths,
creating a new monster! Sick! Will play for a long time! Thanks Dixon and
thanks Nicolas! Now, I hope everybody buys the LP and does their personal
edit to play out!

Detroit Grand Pubahs "The Clapper"

Imagine Green Velvet and Prince hooking up… Interesting, huh. I usually
listen to music initially then listen for vocals-Not this time. A steady 4/4
kick lends its repetitive nature so one can focus on the fun, crazy lighthearted
vocals, telling the story of an alien visiting planet earth. Bump, Bump, Bump.
Jesper Dahlback on the remix providing a gritty, dark techno house alternative
to the quirky, bouncy minimal original. Wish there was a houseier, less tough
version available, but this will do until more
remixes surface, if they do. Should be a big record.
3) Wink "Oakish"/ "Fill Me With Acid"

Two different tracks that were represented on two separate LP's in the USA
only. 'Oakish,' a chunky, stab filled, tech house, driving builder was the
only original track of mine featured on my "Profound Sounds Volume 2"
mixed CD. This has been getting great support from equal number of techno
and house heads, so we decided to release it on vinyl. On the other side;
"Fill me with Acid," is the first single to be released on my "20
to 20" CD. This CD is a collection of acid house influenced tracks I've
composed over the past years. It’s music that I've made to use as a
DJ, to make crowds go
crazy… This track is a good example! A demented hysteria in this build
up!!

4) DZ & DZ "We Love Acid" (RZ5)
Can't say who this one is… But what I can say is! Sick! Huge! Rocking!
Aceeid! This CDR will hopefully be on vinyl by the time this article is published.
The classic 'Jesus Loves the Acid' track redone in a superb fashion! It was
a big record when it first came out, and it's a big record now! Old school,
meeting the present, in a refreshing manner! Thanks to my friend in Paris
for this!

Harry Romero "Feedback" Bambossa CDR
Harry in his tough guise. Very'‘beetle beats.' A bumpin, pumpin, fat,
nasty, driving, well-produced techno-house monster! Whoa. Very Plastikman
influenced with Harry's overall diverse great production signatures. Will
be big. Respect to Harry for staying true to his diverse production skills
and desires to make music. Whether it's house, pumping techno or whatever…
Keep it comin' Harry!
6) Rune "Beautiful" (Acid Dub)
Underwater
Darren gave this to me in Ibiza after he destroyed the dance floor with it
at Pasha! I had to have it. Taking elements of the 80's acid movement and
adding the present sounding house components creates a driving 303, funkafied
tune that's a joy to play. Actually, when the 303 bassline first comes in,
the crowd usually yells and screams. That's when you know it's banging!
7) Funk D'Void "All That Matters"
Soma
Hearing
this, I figured that Lars composed "All That Matters" after his
baby was born. A beautiful tech house story told through soundscapes he filters
in our ears. Lush, sexy, and deep yet he's not afraid to use a kick with brawn
that helps drive this journey all over the place! Lots of people have been
digging this one for some time, and I'm glad. I love records like this; Deep
& sexy with energy and power to push crowds to shake their stuff! A wonderful
record to set a radiant mood.
8) Deetron "Miss Suave" Intec
Another good example of how to make a record beautiful and sexy, yet still
be strong and powerful enough to play on the dancefloor. Percussive techno
funk! Rolling basslines, echoed pads, analog synths, Detroit influenced string
stabs, it's got it all! Making techno sexy! I dig it! I like pitching it down
a couple of %'s. Deetron continues to flex his diverse production skills in
electronic music.
9) Toob "Union Street" (Kenny Hawkes rmx)
Groovetech
Don't know if this track was ever released, but it's something to search for.
A way to track this down is to get Rolando's mix CD/LP on NRK as it's featured
there. Had this sometime last year as a CDR, and have been playing it as often
as I can. Such a hypnotic groove! Just drags me into the sound and engulfs
me in waves of pulsating tones. I don't want the groove to stop! From it's
start, the track keeps building, hovers, grooves, and constantly expands and
contracts rhythmically. Layers of deep sounds and strings swirl in and out.
Man… Funky, deep, sexy house! More like this Kenny!

Avus "Real" Border Community
The 4th release on BC and I find that it's pretty consistent with the sounds
coming forth from this label. James Holden gave this to me in December, and
lately, I've been playing the original out quite a bit. It's not the most
stand out-ish record, but it grooves along nicely. Not too quirky, but just
enough. Spacey swirls and stabs, haunting strings, minimal percussion and
a fat, fat bassline pushes this ditty on and on. Feel torn about the vocal
speech sample, as I would rather it not be there, or be something else. All
in all a good lil' tech house tool. It will break up a house or techno set
nicely. Also features a clicky Nathan Fake version as well.
BONUS) Steffan Goldmann "Shimmer"
Ovum Recordings
Steffan is kicking out the house tracks from his Berlin Studio and we’re
fortunate to have picked up a couple of his tracks for Ovum. This is a sexy
house track with a deeeep bass line that continues to roll with hypnotic Basic
Channel style influences. A great tool in a house or tech-house set that can
be useful for transitions into different avenues of house music. I also had
to get my remix hands in on this track. I created a more tweaky tech house
groove, adding a different feel, yet keeping it true to it’s minimal
funky sweet original. When I played it out, I got stand out "I want that
track…What is that track" comments from producer / DJ's as diverse
as Richie Hawtin to Eric Morillo. Neat! Will be out on Ovum real soon.
